The Pebbles Guide

We have been coming to the Lizard for many years - long before Pebbles was ours. Over that time we've discovered that the places we return to aren't always the ones you'll find at the top of every tourist guide. They're the beaches that are just as magical beneath brooding skies as they are in the sunshine; where cafés where lunch turns into an afternoon and walks we never tire.

We're drawn to places with soul - whether that's a tiny cove, a family-run café serving food we look forward to every time we visit, or a hidden workshop where you can meet the maker. These are the places that have become part of our family's story, and they're the ones we find ourselves recommending whenever friends ask where they should go.

One of the things we've come to admire most about Cornwall is the creativity and resilience of the people who call it home. Independent businesses inevitably come and go, and we've been sad to see a few favourites disappear over the years. But they rarely stay empty for long. More often than not, they're replaced by something new - thoughtful, inventive and deeply rooted in the landscape and community around it.

That connection to the land is woven into Cornish life. Whether it's artists inspired by the coastline, potters working with local clay, growers supplying nearby restaurants or chefs celebrating the very best seasonal produce, there is a genuine sense that people create here because they love this place. It's one of the reasons we enjoy returning year after year.

This guide is a collection of our favourite beaches, walks, cafés, restaurants and hidden corners of the Lizard Peninsula. Some are well known, while others are easy to miss, but each has earned its place for a reason. We hope they become part of your story too.

We've also included ideas for those inevitable rainy days. Thankfully they don't happen as often as you might expect. Being a peninsula, the Lizard's weather changes quickly, and showers often blow through to reveal blue skies an hour later. But every now and then a weather front settles in for the day—or even the week—and it's helpful to know where to find a cosy café, an inspiring gallery or somewhere interesting to explore while you wait for the sunshine to return..
